The Ergo»sling was originally designed in 1999,
for a sonographer with a severe, chronic shoulder injury, working at Flinders
Medical Centre, Adelaide.
Rest, therapy, reduced work hours and
cushions had not been effective.

In the sling she could scan with normal movement and in comfort. She has remained in the profession
and increased her hours.

“I am a sonographer in charge of medical imaging in a busy regional health service. …My shoulder was extremely painful during scanning, and I restricted my activities at work and at home. I had just completed 5 years of post-graduate study in ultrasound, and was dismayed to think that I may have to give up the profession that I found so very rewarding. I was advised by my orthopaedic surgeon to undergo an acromioplasty – again. I took NSAID’s…had bursal injections of cortisone…these gave tremendous relief, but were only temporary.

After using the sling while scanning, I have been able to cease all anti-inflammatory tablets; I have not had any further bursal injections…and no longer experience pain in my right shoulder during or after performing ultrasound examinations.
